Construction Job Interview Tips
Construction interviews are different from office interviews. They’re shorter, more practical, and focused on whether you can do the job safely and reliably.
What They’ll Ask
“What tickets do you have?” — List them all, including expiry dates. “What projects have you worked on?” — Name specific projects, your role, and the builder. “Are you available to start Monday?” — Say yes if you are. Hesitation loses you the job. “Do you have your own transport?” — Construction sites aren’t always near public transport. “Do you have your own tools?” — Expected for most trades, not for labourers.
What They Won’t Ask
Behavioural questions, STAR method responses, or “where do you see yourself in 5 years.” Construction interviews are practical, not corporate.
How to Stand Out
Show up on time. Wear clean work clothes and steel caps. Bring your tickets (physical or digital). Have references ready. Be direct and honest. Follow up with a text the next day.
