Do Labourers Need Their Own Tools?
Short answer: no. Most construction labourers don’t need to bring any tools — the builder or contractor supplies them.
What YOU Bring
Steel-capped boots (mandatory). Hi-vis shirt. Long pants (no shorts on most sites). Sunscreen and hat. Lunch and water. Your White Card and photo ID.
What the EMPLOYER Provides
All power tools and hand tools. PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, ear plugs). Specific equipment for the task. Amenities (toilets, break shed, water).
Exception
Trade assistants working alongside a specific tradesperson may be asked to bring a basic tool belt with tape measure, pencil, and utility knife. Cost: under $50.
