Pre-Apprenticeship Courses in Perth Construction
A pre-apprenticeship gives you a 6-12 month head start over other apprenticeship applicants. You learn basic skills, get exposure to the trade, and employers see you as a lower-risk hire.
Available Courses
TAFE WA offers pre-apprenticeships in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, bricklaying, and wall/ceiling fixing. Duration: typically 6-12 months (Certificate I or II level). Cost: subsidised under WA government funding — often under $500.
What You Learn
Basic tool use and safety. Reading plans and drawings. Introduction to trade-specific skills. Workshop and on-site experience. White Card (usually included in the course).
Why It’s Worth It
Employers prefer applicants with pre-apprenticeship training — it shows commitment and reduces their training burden. Many pre-apprenticeship students secure apprenticeships before they even finish the course.
