Wet Weather Policy Construction WA: Rules for Rain Days

Wet Weather Policy in WA Construction

Rain stops work on most construction sites. Here is what the rules say about pay, stand-down, and your rights during wet weather.

Award Provisions

Under the Building and Construction Award, employees can be stood down without pay when weather makes work unsafe or impractical. However, you must be paid for the first two hours if you report to site and are then sent home. If you work part of the day, you are paid for hours worked.

EBA Sites

Many EBA agreements have better wet weather provisions — some guarantee minimum 4-hour pay if you report to site. Check your specific EBA or ask your union delegate.

Employer Obligations

Employers must make reasonable efforts to find alternative work during wet weather (indoor tasks, planning, training). Standing down should be a last resort, not the first response to drizzle.
