Site Supervisor vs Foreman: What’s the Difference in Construction?

Supervisor vs Foreman

Both are leadership roles on construction sites but they sit at different levels of the hierarchy.

Foreman

Manages a specific trade crew (e.g. carpentry foreman, concrete foreman). Typically 5-15 workers. Still works on the tools part of the time. $55-$70/hr ($100K-$130K). Reports to the site supervisor.

Site Supervisor

Manages the entire site across all trades. Doesn’t work on tools. Responsible for scheduling, safety, quality, and coordination. $60-$80/hr ($110K-$160K). Reports to the project manager.

Career Path

Tradesperson → leading hand → foreman → site supervisor → construction manager. Each step adds $15K-$30K to your annual earnings.
